Hi Mooniacs,
during last annual the shop found corrossion at my 252. They said the have to remove wings to reach the place in the rear bottom area and it would take them 2 weeks(!). Does anybody has a good adress to get a second opinion?

I guess it depends on your location but people talk about the following shops with good Mooney experience:

Troyes Aviation in Troyes (FR): European Mooney franchise, very good work, large shop, but not cheap
RAS Moenchengladbach in Moenchengladbach (DE): former Mooney franchise, ask for Mr Springl. They seem to be very knowledgeable
Malter at Neustadt/Aisch: little shop, but well organised, can be costly, but knows Mooneys quite well.
ACG Air-Craft: formerly at Leutkirch (DE), now at Allendorf: I have heard good things about them. Maybe an idea for a second opinion. They had the Mooney franchise before and are now a Mooney Service Center again.

Also Mastenbroek Aeroskill (EHSE) can do this job. They are maintaining some Mooneys in Netherlands and are european "Weep-Mo-More" tank repair partner.

can you describe the corroded area a bit better? On spar, skin, under rear seat???

Hi Tom,

please can you give us more details about your spar corrosion? Where is it located? Rear spar/front spar/ where spar penetrates fuselage? This would be very appreciable so that other Mooniacs may inspect this area in their aircraft.
Did you get a satisfactory repair?
BTW we have a foreign Mooniac having a similar pb.

The corrosion was found when opened the inspection flap under wing at rearside. They used a mini camera. The wing was removed completely and the backweb (the vertical static steel construction inside the wing) was constructed new (no spare parts available!) and was reinstalled. Mooniacs from US and LASAR said, that this does not happened to often, but carefull: Mooney does not use corrosion protection in these areas, so the quite uneasy check, is defenetly worth it. You could prevent a downtime of two month and 30'€. At least I have the famous green corrosion protection now which should save me for the next 50 years...
